Here's a Good Look Into the Soul of the Tea Party

Meet Danita Kilcullen, a co-founder of the Tea Party in Florida. This photo was taken a couple of years ago after she had kicked a policeman. More recently, an email from this dear lady surfaced in which she raved against the new law forbidding discrimination in the workplace. Ms. Kilcullen's electronic rant ended with the thought that she resented the notion that the government could demand that she had to hire "a man in a dress… or some butch-looking female."

Better Late Than Never … I Guess.

The New York Times has an interesting story today about Ken Mehlman, who was one of the key political strategists for George W. Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004.

That was the year the Republicans got the issue of gay marriage on the ballot in a lot of the swing states in order to turn out their base … the theory being the would vote against gay marriage and for “Dubya”.  It worked, too.

And now we learn that Mehlman is gay, has come out of the closet, and is urging the Republican Party to accept gay marriage. That story prompted some wonderful comments in the Times, but of those I read, this was the best:

Yet another conservative taking the liberal position on the one issue that hits close to home.
McCain, on torture. Rubio, on immigration. Cheney, and this guy, on gay marriage. Ryan, on his family government contract business issues. Jindal, on hurricane relief. 

And so it goes.

I wonder what Ted Turner thinks of the "reporting" these days on his brainchild, CNN. Once upon a time, it was the place to go for immediate coverage of hard news. Now ... ?

Good Question!!

The great mystery of our times is how can roughly half the voting population of this country can support a political party that advocates so many positions that simply defy rational thinking.

Of course he's against it. Bump the Minimum Wage to nine bucks and the cost of a Big Mac would go up by 3 or 4 cents at least!
